  • RIP Free unattended access
I can't tell what fee would be acceptable as licence deals are done by a different unit and they usually order campus or volume contracts. And even if your offer would be affordable, it must be clear that it would then be re-evaluated against all other commercial remote management products and there are a lot in the market. So it would not be sure at all that your product will then still be awarded the contract.

It is OK that not everything can be free but if one decides to offer a Pro version additionally to a previous free version, one would expect that new features and "bonus tracks" will then exclusively come for the Pro version. To remove features afterwards from the well established free version leaves a nasty taste.
  • RIP Free unattended access
Sorry to say but the unattended remote access in the free version is essential for me in a public scientific environment. If it will come back in a future version some months later it will be too late. So I would have to look for another solution. The program has made good progress over the last years but now it seems to become worthless, sorry.
  • Has future update of remote assistant v2.3.0.52 changed?
As an addendum to my previous post I revisited the remote installation process and can say that it works also for remote users not beeing admins and you will get the UAC password prompt so you can enter the required admin password to proceed with the installation.

  • Remote Desktop Randomly Loses Settings
Hi, I have RemoteAssistant running on several computers but there is only one who has shown this problem three times so far. Could not connect to this special one because the ID number has suddenly changed. The only noticeable difference is that on this PC the installation of RA was run by an account without admin rights requiring UAC password prompting. On all other PCs the installation was done by an admin user. I don't know if this has something to do with the problem, just an idea... ;-)

Interestingly there is a workaround for this problem. I did this several times and it worked, at least for me, no guarantee, whatsoever! ;-)

There is no client update option in the menu but you can update the remote client manually as a normal installation while beeing connected! I thought that I will lose all connection somewhere in the middle of the installation process but it did not! I started the installation by clicking on the file and it asks if I will close the application as it is currently running. Yes, and the connection is gone. Don't worry, simply reconnect and you can proceed the same way as if it is done on your own machine. As I remember you will have to reconnect twice. Don't panic, the last reconnect will, if done too fast, first show that the host is not running or has a different ID but a few moments later it will reconnect and show the updated version number.

I was surprised that it runs so smoothly. It would be better to have the option again in the menu but in the meantime it is ok for me. Maybe one caveat to consider: The user running the update on my remote machine has admin rights so the system is not asking for an admin password to gain necessary rights. Maybe this could be different if this user doesn't have sufficient rights in the beginning. I have not tried this case. So don't blame me if your installation is stalled when trying to gain elevated rights and it get's no confirmation.

    Good luck!
