We are trying do complete the initial synthetic full image backup to a cloud provider of one server on a network. Without throttling in effect we are consuming nearly all of the available Upload (Outbound) bandwidth making connections slow for the users. In addition, we want the initial backup to finish as quickly as possible. When we stop the backup using the square shaped button and then start the backup again using the triangle play button, the backup seems to start again at 0% loosing the % backup that was completed thus far.

Two questions:
1. Is it possible to Stop then later Start the initial synthetic full image backup to the cloud without beginning the backup process from 0% each time?

2. When do Bandwidth modifications take effect? Static bandwidth cloud storage Max speed vs. specific schedule schedule options Max speed if these take effect differently. Often making a change to this bandwidth does not seem to effect the amount of bandwidth being used by the MSP360 backup process even after stopping and then starting the backup process.

Does anyone have any feedback concerning why the backup can't be stopped then again started without having the start the entire full backup again?

Does anyone know when Bandwidth modifications take effect? When we change bandwidth with the full backup running the change seems to be ignored.

If you stop the backup, it will have to restart the next time. Since this is the first image backup you are performing, all the data must be moved up to your storage provider (synthetic does not help on the initial backup). Subsequent backups are incremental and should occur much more quickly, depending on the amount of data change. That's also true for any future synthetic fulls, which will use much of the data already stored in the cloud in order to create the next full backup.

Stopping the backup and restarting is not supported at this time. Since we're taking snapshots of entire volumes, the process needs to run to completion unimpeded.

I'm waiting on some information to better answer your bandwidth schedules question. I'll reply shortly.

Thanks David. Understand concerning the initial full backup running to completion

I appreciate any information you might have concerning the bandwidth changes question.

Regarding bandwidth schedules: They are dynamically checked and if you start a backup during a schedule with limited upstream bandwidth and the backup extends into the evening with a less limited bandwidth schedule, then the backup will adjust dynamically to that schedule.

I may have found at least part of the problem. It appears that we set the bandwidth in Online Backup on the server as well as via the mspbackups.com/Admin / Remote Management / Edit / Edit Options / Bandwidth setting portal. When I tried to eliminate the bandwidth setting via the Online Backup application on the server, it appeared to remove the Bandwidth setting but the setting would return again. When I removed the bandwidth setting via the mspbackups.com portal then the bandwidth setting control was regained. I presume that this means that the mspbackup.com settings trump the Online Backup Bandwidth settings.

Thank you. If we edit the backup schedule after the full backup has started, will the backup dynamically adjust based on revised setting hours and/or setting bandwidth?

No, you cannot change a backup plan while it is in progress and have the changes applied for the current execution as far as I'm aware.

Regarding Bandwidth: The settings are made at the agent level and apply to all backups on the device. If you change them from the setting in the management console you mentioned (RMM - Edit Options - Bandwidth), they should be reflected immediately on the client in the Options - Bandwidth tab. Changing in one place should update the other just like Backup and Restore plans. Are you saying you're seeing different behavior?

You can also set Bandwidth in the Remote Deploy section which can help push out initial settings to clients based on rules.

Also, The bandwidth throttling recognizes if you have multiple plans running simultaneously and splits the available bandwith between them.
