My image backups error when I have 'Disable VSS, use ..' unchecked.

There are VSS event log entries like:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process.
When I check 'Disable VSS, use ..' the backups complete without error.
Is anyone using new format image backups with 'Disable VSS, use ..' unchecked?
I have not logged a case yet as I am not comfortable with sending logfiles that potentially expose internal network information. I clicked 'Save Diagnostic Logs' today and opened the zip file and found NAS account details (username) in SystemInfo.txt, as an example. I am not sure how this helps diagnose a problem!
