Good evening, I am attempting to back up a Windows Server 2012 R2 Virtual Machine that contains my domain controller and redirected local documents from about 20 computers. Here is my question:

I have installed MSP360 for backup on the actual VM instead of the root server. I am running the backup from within the VM. Is that best practice or should I use the shadow command to back up the VM from outside the VM? I have not had good results in the past trying to shadow copy a running VM from the actual server. I am a volunteer at our church on this and appreciate the help, but know I am not the skill level of many here. Thank you for your time and help on this.

You need to install the software on the host machine in order to back up Hyper-V VMs.
